We were making close up pictures of Indie’s nose and he wasn’t sure why the camera was pointing at his noise. Look at his cute little eyes, looking at us “What are you doing to meeeeeeeee?????”
Shanti’s Nicknames Explained
We posted Indie’s nicknames (Superman!) and we can’t leave Shanti out!
Shanti is such a sweetheart and her nicknames mainly reflect that.
- Stinkerbell – Shanti is really Tinkerbell, with a stinker touch. She is so fast and flighty, but an enormous stinker bun. Hence sTinkerbell.

- Bunny – Again, Shanti is such a sweet girl, just like a little bunny. Hence Bunny.
- BonBon – Well, and Bunny sounds a little like Bon (at least if you are not a native English speaker or French!). And then it became BonBon, which is really GoodGood or chocolate! And who doesn’t like chocolate!
- GoodieGoodShoes – Goodie 2 Shoes or Goodie 4 Paws and then I make it GoodieGoodShoes! She can sit and look at you: “I am a good girl! Cuddle me! Cuddlllllllleeeee Meeeeeee! I am so Gooooooood!”
- Chewbacca – especially when playing with Indie, she makes these Chewbacca sounds! Chewbacca sound

Indie’s Nicknames Explained
On Our Newfies Page, we describe our Newfies and also list their nicknames.
Indie is racking up quite a bit of them (he is such a cute puppy), so I thought I should explain them a bit.
Here we go:
- Beefy Boy – Indie is quite the opposite of dainty butterfly Shanti. When he lays down, he puts his elbows out as ready for a big old steak. He is solid, none of this jelly Shanti stuff when she was a pup.
- Indiana Jones – Indie is quite the explorer and curious. He loves to know what is going on and what you are up to. We can totally picture him as Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones with his whip and cowboy hat!
- Brave Heart – Indie has this enormous battle cry when Shanti does not really want to play with him. He gets really vocal and rambunctious and goes Woowoowoowooo. He is totally ready to go to battle, hence Brave Heart.
- BudBud – Shanti’s BonBon sounds a bit silly on a boy, and he is a Bud, so he became BudBud.
- Barracuda (when playing with Shanti) – Indie has quite the jaws when playing with Shanti. Lips pulled up to the max and biting the ear, the neck, the paw, the flanks and back to the ear, etc, etc.
- Superman! – This is Indie’s latest nickname and so true! He loves treats and he loves to plop in a down as fast as he can to get his treat. So he dives to the ground, slides his front paws forward as fast as he can, he is Superman! On top of that, he loves to wear a “cape”, Superman’s cape. He walks under our curtains and proceeds to open them (….no, we really want them closed. Can you learn to close them while you are at it?), even at the store, the little curtain behind the counter, he loves to wrap himself in it.

Are dogs colorblind?
This is a frequently asked question. Dogs are not colorblind, but they see color differently than we do.
An average dog sees similar to a human person that is red-green colorblind. Consequently, the dog’s world consists of yellows, blues, and grays. When a human perceives a red object it appears as yellow to the dog, while a green object appears as white, a shade of gray.

Rain Coats for Large Dogs
Rain coats that fit large dogs or deep chested dogs are hard to find. Luckily, there are a couple of brands that make coats that fit these guys and girls! We know, since we have Newfoundlands and they are big and have big chests.
The following coats would be good for the bigger chested varieties such as Boston Terriers, Pugs, Pit bulls, Boxers, Giant breeds, such as Newfoundlands, Great Pyrenees, Leonbergers, Saint Bernards, Bernese Mountain Dogs, etc, etc, etc. Make sure to measure your dog’s length and girth and follow the sizing charts.
Whistler Zip Line
The Whistler Zip Line dog coat is lined with fleece. It is machine washable.
Ruff Wear Sun Shower
The Ruff Wear Sun Shower dog rain coat is a shell. It is not lined and it has a detachable hood. Dogs can easily run in this dog rain coat! This is a good rain coat for active dogs who do not need extra warmth.
